Cannes 2025: Anupam Kher’s ‘Tanvi The Great’ Gets Standing Ovation at World Premiere
At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, veteran Indian actor and director Anupam Kher launched his directorial effort, Tanvi The Great, to a standing ovation and massive applause. The movie, Kher’s first as a director in 23 years, is the heartwarming tale of Tanvi Raina, a 21-year-old autistic woman who wants to fulfill the dream of her deceased father to salute the Indian flag at the Siachen Glacier.
Kher shared his thankfulness on Twitter and tweeted, “I am humbled and touched by the emotional outpouring from the audiences from all nations last night at the #WorldPremiere of #TanviTheGreat. They all said it has a universal theme, and it touched their heart.”
The movie has an excellent cast, with debutant Shubhangi Dutt playing the role of Tanvi, Col. Pratap Raina played by Anupam Kher, and Michael Simmons played by international actor Iain Glen. The other great actors are Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker, and Nassar.
